Children between the ages of 6-10 had the chance to be a chorister for a day on Saturday 2nd November at an event jointly hosted by Norwich Cathedral and Norwich School. 'Be a Chorister Day' is an annual event for any child in the county who loves to sing!

The Catering Team at Norwich School is celebrating after receiving a top catering award – The Best Chartwells Independent School in the Country. Chartwells Independent is a catering company who work with over 100 independent schools across the UK and each year they choose one school to win the national award. The accolade is even more prestigious after Chartwells Independent were themselves recently named as the ‘Best Independent Schools Caterer of the Year’ at the EDU Catering Excellence Awards.

Norwich School has received the highest grading possible in all areas of a recent educational quality inspection by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) for both Senior and Lower Schools, with a grading of excellent across the board. They also met all criteria to pass all areas of the Compliance Inspection.

It was a wet autumnal day in Bedford on Sunday 13th October for the annual small boats head on the River Great Ouse. Every member got to race twice on the 1900m course and some were fortunate to race three times in their soggy kit but such was the good camaraderie and team spirit, the conditions didn’t hamper the performance.

Lower 4 pupils went on their first residential trip of the year to Hautbois House Activity Centre last week. This annual trip is an excellent way for pupils to get to know each other, their form tutors and Sixth Form Peer Supporters, in their respective houses. 

Pupils engaged in a number of activities including canoeing, low ropes, crate stacking and raft building. In the evening's pupils sat around a campfire together, telling stories. 

Repton house secured a new Norwich School crate stacking record, whilst Valpy house won 'best shelter' of the week.

After some great results at the English Schools Ski Association regional qualifying round at Welwyn Garden City in September,  Norwich School was well represented at the National Finals which were held in Norwich at the beginning of October.

Pupils in the Senior School have been marking World Mental Health Day over the past two days. In assembly on Thursday, pupils heard from Max Merron in L6 who shared his story and unveiled a fundraising project to support and raise awareness of mental health.

On Thursday 3rd October, a Making Musicians concert took place in the South Transept of Norwich Cathedral. Norwich School pupil, Alice Palmer, and Dereham Sixth Form College pupil, India Simpson, both sung five pieces each.

The Sketch for Survival 2019 Auction has started!

Sketch for Survival is an annual exhibition and sale of wildlife art in aid of conservation. The collection comprises sketches, studio artworks, illustrations and cartoons, all depicting endangered wildlife from around the world.

National Poetry Day (3rd October 2019) was celebrated at Norwich School with a  Poetry Workshop for Lower Five pupils with performance poet Matt Windle, followed by a poetry slam competition, in the Undercroft Library, using the National Poetry Day theme of 'Truth' as a starting point.

Sixth Form pupils at Norwich School have produced a new cookbook dedicated to John Walker. John was a much-loved member of the school for over 45 years, working as a teacher, governor and archivist before he sadly passed away in 2016. The cookbook will raise money for the Priscilla Bacon Hospice appeal, where John spent his final days.

‘Baking for Bacon’ is packed full of recipes which have been provided by restaurants and cafes in Norfolk and Suffolk, as well as from amateur bakers, including pupils at Norwich School and those involved with the charity.

The first-ever Independent Study Platinum Evening took place on Wednesday 25th September in the Blake Studio at Norwich School.

The House Shout at St Andrew's Hall brought an uplifting end to the school's annual House Music Festival. 

Throughout the two day festival, musicians performed a variety of pieces, eager to collect points for their respective houses. The Principal Adjudicator this year was Thomas Hewitt Jones, an award-winning composer of contemporary classical and commercial music. Winner of the 2003 BBC Young Composer Competition, his music has been published by Boosey & Hawkes among many others.

Our Upper 6th Leavers secured places at top universities and courses following a fantastic set of A Level results.

Last Friday, parents, pupils and staff gathered in Norwich Cathedral for the annual Prizegiving service. It was a chance to reflect on the successes of the last academic year and to congratulate pupils on their achievements in both academic subjects and extra-curricular activities.
