The British Schools Orienteering Championship

19 November 2023

A full minibus headed to Yorkshire for the British Schools Orienteering Championships, and returned with some medals and a lot of muddy clothes.

Individually, one of the best results came from Beth Stockham, who was 6th in the Year 8 girls race. In the team events, our Year 7 boys team of JJ Li, Jack Johns, and Oliver Mancini came 5th, while the Year 8 boys team of Marcus Richardson, George Tooley and Luca Pataconni came 4th.

The big success of the day came in the Year 7 girls race. Nola Woodeson and Jazlyn Lee got us off to a great start, setting times that would finish 5th and 8th at the end of the day. There was a nervous wait at the finish as Molly Rush and Amelia Nundy didn't appear for a while. Both had difficulties finding particular checkpoints, but didn't give up, eventually finishing after more than an hour, covered in mud. Their determination to complete the course meant that the girls secured second place overall in the Year 7 team competition.

Congratulations to all pupils who took part!
