Four Sixth Form pupils have their work shortlisted for Art & Design competition

20 June 2023

The Norfolk Art & Design Competition showcases creative student talent from sixth forms and colleges in Norfolk. The competition is organised by the Norwich University of the Arts and gives the pupils the opportunity to have their work featured as part of an exhibition at the university, and a chance to win some prizes.

This year four of our sixth form pupils have had their work selected, two students from the 3D Design course; Beatrix with her textile sculptural piece and Arthur with an architectural model. From the Fine Art course Tabitha has been selected with her hyperrealism drawing of a Hyena and from the 2D Design course Po Man Leung with her embroidered portraits.  We look forward to seeing their work as part of the exhibition in July, and wish them all good luck.

Po Man Leung

I am very excited to be selected and it is truly an honour to have my work featured. I hope my art piece can remind people that we are constantly surrounded by nature. Living in such a busy world, people spend the most time working and being on social media. They rarely spend time admiring nature which is a shame.  Nature is everywhere and everyone can be part of it. I hope after viewing my work, people are encouraged to step into nature and appreciate its greatness.

I was very excited to find out that my work had been shortlisted for Norfolk Art and Design competition 2023 and was going on display. The piece I submitted was called Seasick and it aims to communicate the effects of coral bleaching through the medium of textiles. It is an abstract wall hanging responding to climate change and how it is deeply affecting our coral reef ecosystem. I demonstrated the effects of coral bleaching through the use of colour, by using a gradient from rich, vibrant colours through to whites and paler shades. I have used a variety of textiles, including yarn, felt and fabric. I individually crocheted the coral clusters and used a yarn tufting-gun to create the textured shapes and curves of the striking background.

I've chosen to display my Transport Interchange project. Encompassing various elements such as platforms, roads, waiting areas, and signage. Also displaying intricate details like train tracks and station architecture as well as including seamless navigation. Which depicts the harsh reality of urban life. I am excited to have been selected for this piece of work.
