Mother Tongue
Pupils whose first language is not English, or who speak another language at home can submit a poem or song in their mother tongue. This can be an original, creative piece or a ‘remembered’ piece – i.e., something in your first language that you recall, or that has been told to you by a relative. It can be written in any language, except English.
You should then write a short paragraph in English explaining the piece and why it is so important to you. This is the bit you will be judged on. Don't write more than half a page of A4.
Other Tongue
Other Tongue entries must be an original poem written in a language you are learning. Include a translation in English. Get creative!
