Lower Sixth Inspired by the Norfolk Reading Project Training

21 October 2022

A group of 10 Lower Sixth pupils received training from The Norfolk Reading Project this week in how to read phonetically, break down words into phonic sounds and techniques in order to become effective 1-1 reading support teachers. This is part of the Community Service programme where pupils will be taking on the role of support readers from the start of November. They will go out to a primary school once a week and assist pupils in Years 2-4 who are most in need of support following the academic delays caused by absences due to Covid lockdowns.

The Norfolk Reading Project is a charity which is seeking to get volunteers to help turn the tide on the ever-increasing literacy difficulties young children are facing across Britain. We are grateful for the outstanding and inspiring assistance Anne Thorley and Lorraine Hall have provided us over the last few years and pupils are looking forward to meeting the children whom they will be helping from Lakenham, West Earlham, Lionwood, Magdalen gates primary schools and Norwich Primary Academy. If any ONs, parents or extended family are inspired by the difference even an hour each week can make, do consider volunteering with The Norfolk Reading Project.

Their website contains many resources and information on how to get involved and can be accessed here: Home » The Norfolk Reading Project
