Successful Launch of John Walker Works and Projects Book

10 February 2023

On 9 February 2023 the school’s Development Office Team were delighted to host the launch an exciting and unique new book: John Walker-  ‘The King of Scribble’ - Works and Projects 1947-2016.

This important book has been years in the making, painstakingly pulling together the body of work of this important local artist who sadly passed in 2016. John worked at the school for 44 years and was a much-loved art teacher, School Governor and Archivist. His legacy continues to loom large today and this book is a beautiful collection of his works, featuring many of the school buildings, as well as drawings of Norwich and wider afield. It is a volume that will appeal to art lovers, local historians and all those with a fine appreciation of the rich heritage of Norwich School and this city. The launch took place in the School Chapel and was attended by an audience of his loving family, his former pupils, contributors to the book, work colleagues past and present, and members of the Friends of Norwich School who had sponsored the book’s initial design.

Ian Passam, the current Head of Art and Design at Norwich School who had been appointed by John many moons ago gave a warm address of the importance of John as an artist, friend and colleague. Ben Walker, his son, gave a moving response sharing details of John as a family man.

John’s family have generously committed proceeds from book sales to go towards a John Walker bursary at Norwich School to reflect the love he had for this school.
