Flavours from across all the continents on offer to celebrate Language Day

On Friday Norwich School celebrated Languages Day by tasting various flavours from all across the world. Norwich School Catering produced 7 delicious tasters for pupils at the Lower and Senior school. There was something for everyone; sweet, salty, meat, vegetarian. To add to this, the Catering team ensured that they produced one dish from each continent which immersed the pupils into different cultures.

Below is a list of the dishes that the pupils tasted:

 

ASIA: Mandarin Chicken Bites

This healthy Chinese recipe inspired by take out from Panda Express. Chicken breast chunks coated in a sweet/salty brown glaze made of orange juice, brown sugar, and soy sauce.

 

AFRICA: Droe Wors

Droewors (Droe Wors or Drywors) is an Afrikaans word which directly translates to “Dry Sausage”. It originates in South Africa and is the second most popular snack, just after biltong

 

AUSTRALIA: Vegemite Crackers

A thick, dark brown Australian food spread made from leftover brewers’ yeast extract with various vegetable and spice additives.

 

NORTH AMERICA: Vegetarian Jambalaya

Jambalaya is an American Creole and Cajun rice dish of French, African, and Spanish influence, consisting mainly of meat and vegetables mixed with rice. This is our vegetarian take on this dish.

 

SOUTH AMERICA: Churros

A churro is a type of fried dough from Spanish and Portuguese cuisine, made with choux pastry dough dusted with cinnamon and sugar.

 

EUROPE: German Bratwurst

Bratwurst is a type of German sausage made from pork or, less commonly, beef or veal. The name is derived from the Old High German Brätwurst, from brät-, finely chopped meat, and wurst, sausage

 

ANTARCTICA: Sledding Biscuits

These are hard, long-life biscuits made of flour, salt, butter, water and baking soda. Sledging biscuits are popular on expeditions in Antarctica because they are high in energy.
