An evening with Laurence Edwards showcasing his striking new sculpture 'Yoxman'

10 November 2022

On Saturday 12th November 2022, Norfolk Contemporary Arts Society (NCAS) is back on site with us for their upcoming talk, An evening with Laurence Edwards and his new sculpture ‘Yoxman’

Norwich School is delighted to be the host site for various Norfolk-based organisations in their series of interesting and engaging lectures. Our exciting programme continues to offer insight on important and interesting issues, delivered by high-quality experts in their field and providing thought-provoking talks for both the school and local community.

Laurence Edwards is a highly acclaimed and award-winning sculptor and a great creative talent, perhaps best known locally for his Man of Stones sculpture at the Sainsbury Centre, UEA.

He will be showcasing his striking new sculpture ‘Yoxman’, a simply astonishing 26 ft sculpture which stands next to the A12 in Suffolk. Weighing 8 tonnes and cast at Edwards' foundry, it is one of the largest bronze sculptures to be cast in the UK in recent years. Organic matter was incorporated into the process with leaves, branches, stone and rope moulded into the form.  Edward's describes the work as "a Green Man for our age'. A keen walker, he speaks passionately about the ancient reverberations of the Suffolk landscape which has been his home for most of his life, with its constant reminders of human activity spanning back to prehistoric times. A Q&A will follow the talk, plus the opportunity to engage with the speaker personally at the end over refreshments.

The talk will be located in Blake Studio, Norwich School (overlooking the playground) for a 7pm start, with doors open shortly beforehand. Tickets will be £5 on the door to cover NCAS costs; £3 to NCAS members and free to students and school pupils.

Parking is available in the school playground, and you do not need to book in Advance.
