The National Schools' Regatta is one of the pinnacle regattas in the Boat Clubs calendar, held over 3 days, over 150 Schools and clubs with over 5000 junior athletes battle in intense multi-lane regatta racing to have a chance to claim a medal.
Day 1 saw the Junior members of the boat club race over 1000m. This was the first race for many of the J14’s and they raced valiantly. The boys J14 coxed quad and girls octo both of which placed 14th in the country against a tight field of competition. And finally, the J15 boys 8+ also produced a brilliant result. Coming 11th in the country beating Shiplake College, Eton College and Reading Blue Coat School.
On the 2nd day, the J16 year group had a great day, the Girls coxed four qualified for the B final where they came 3rd, and the boys coxed four qualified for the A final where after a tough row against Westminster, Great Marlow School and Reading Blue Coat School they claimed 4th from 26 crews by under a second.
On the final day the senior squad saw the Girls double scull of Maisie Humphrey and Florence Carter produce another positive result this year, after placing 10th in the time trial, they moved onto their semifinal and qualified for the B final. A dominant display of rowing meant they claimed 1st in that final and came 9th in the country.
However, the pinnacle of the results was made by the J18 boys championship coxless four, the boys displayed their best rowing of the year, placing second in the time trial with a 10 second advantage on Canford. In the semifinal they had a commanding win, beating Canford again qualifying them for the A final.
In the A final the Boys started strong and left the rest of the competition behind to fight Mosley Boat Club one on one. This resulted in a well-deserved silver medal.
A set of incredibly positive results from this year's National Regatta puts the Boat Club in a great position for our next main goal; Henley Royal Regatta and Henley Womans Regatta.
