Neurodiversity Champions at Norwich School - Mr Rowlandson

13 March 2023

As a part of Norwich School’s support of Neurodiversity Celebration Week, the neurodiversity group are interviewing Neurodiversity Champions at Norwich School. Our first Champion is Mr Rowlandson.

What does Neurodiversity Awareness week mean to you personally?

It is a chance to celebrate the way we are all wired differently.

Do you have any Neurodiverse Role Models?

My dad. As a child, he had severe, undiagnosed dyslexia. His school reports showed a lack of understanding of his challenges and teacher comments knocked his confidence. He persevered though and went on to become a teacher! He inspired me to do the same.

What do you want people to know about Neurodiversity?

Despite my difficulties, I’ve comes to see dyslexia as a superpower. Whilst I find it difficult to process information quickly, to spell perfectly or to remember details precisely, I have different strengths. I think creatively. I love to problem-solve. I think ‘outside the box’. I want others to learn more about neurodiversity so they can identify, support and celebrate the strengths of their neurodiverse peers.

What is your favourite thing about being Neurodiverse?

Thinking differently.
