Crypt Exhibition: Five Do Art in Norfolk

10 November 2022

Five do Art are welcomed into the Crypt with their exhibition this week, running between 9th to the 19th of November from 10am-5pm. Closed Sun and open until 8.30pm on Thursday 17th.

Five do Art is a collective made up of five women, with diverse backgrounds, brought together by their shared love of art. Norwich itself has become a central meeting point where they can meet over a meal and a drink, share their work, their inspirations and friendship.

Below you will see what inspires the five artists to paint, and an insight into what you can see at their exhibition:

Denise Canderton

After a diverse career in the metropolitan police force, Denise’s retirement has allowed her to return to her first love of painting full time. After living in locations across Asia and Europe, the colourful vibrancy and richness of cultures can be seen impacting her work to this day.

Emma Wilkinson

Working mainly in Oil, acrylic and vibrant watercolour, Emma is influenced by her surroundings, bringing a sense of calm mixed with at times a touch of mischievous.  Emma has exhibited in various London, Brighton and Norfolk galleries.

Jo Burbage

Jo’s paintings are a commentary on her daily life, inspired by the natural and man-made beauty of East Anglia, especially its expanses of coast and waterways, which she explores whilst swimming. She recreates both the impact of architectural and natural bold, bright colours swathed in sunlight and the myriad of colours found in the British country garden. Her paintings communicate a connection to a place of significance or a moment in time.

Sam Bannon-Ryder

Travel, life experience and the people she has met along the way all profoundly influence Sam’s work. Sam has a passion and a vision for pushing the boundaries with experimental 3D artwork, but also loves to create paintings in a kaleidoscope of colour, patterns and intricate details.

Corri Van de Stege

Her land and seascapes evoke a sense of place and mood, directly influenced not only by the Norfolk scape but also by having lived and travelled in so many different places and countries across the world. Their paintings are full of movement, veering towards expressionism and semi-abstract.
