Outdoor adventures for Lower 5 on Bramley Lakes trip

29 September 2023

History Teacher George Robbins was one of the Norwich School staff members who last week escorted Lower 5 to Bramley Lakes. He tells us more about the day here:

"Arriving at Bramley Lakes on a gloriously sunny day, the L5 Brooke pupils brought unrivaled energy and enthusiasm to every activity they undertook, with each house being scored on traits such as positivity, resilience, ability etc. throughout the day. First up, archery. Billy and Ting Ting were the sharpshooters in the group, regularly hitting the centre of the targets with flair and confidence. A notable mention here should go to Imogen who managed to somehow miss the target but the arrow ended up in the back of the target, defying the laws of physics seemingly. Archery was quickly followed by axe-throwing, where the Brooke team threw a combination of hatchets and tomahawks. Roman was the standout axe-thrower, spinning his weapon to the target with deadly accuracy.

After a short break, the team chemistry of L5B was tested as they had to construct a trebuchet quickly and then fire water balloons at their opposition. With the leadership of Owen and Alex, the team efficiently constructed their weapon, with Serena's positivity always carrying the team. Soon the trebuchet was ready to wreak havoc, and it did just that as Parker members were soaked by our accurate shots. As a History teacher, this was my proudest moment of the afternoon! After lunch, it was onto the high ropes and here fears were conquered and the team support was at its highest. The likes of Ben, Simran, Havana, Lily and Harry scaled the structure and showed great bravery throughout the challenge. A final challenge of the day saw the team having to work together to crack different puzzles and physical challenges. Whilst we struggled to transport a golf ball through some tubing, Will changed our strategy and kept the team focused to eventually overcome this hurdle.

The day finished with a typical jigsaw puzzle with the likes of Charlotte, Will and Owen demonstrating their puzzle ability. Despite being robbed with a 5th place finish on the day, many of the instructors I spoke to made a point of how cohesive our group were.

I hope your children enjoyed their day on Friday! It was a great pleasure to see them coming together and supporting each other!"
