Norwich School is flying!

03 March 2023

There was an audible gasp when our audience learned the legal age for flying a light aircraft was just 14 and solo flight status could be achieved at just 16!

We were in the Blake Studio at Norwich School on 2nd March 2023 where a group of aspiring aviators comprising pupils, parents and staff heard from the incredibly enthusiastic crew of Mid Anglia Light Sport Aviation who fly out of Beccles Aerodrome in Norfolk.

Owner Pat Fenn and his colleague Gary gave a very informative and engaging introductory presentation covering all aspects of learning to fly, from the practical elements (where, how, costs, the training needed to become a pilot) as well as the more general aspects to flying tuition (what to do in an emergency, the challenges encountered when flying, implications for the weather, freedoms and restrictions in the air etc). This was interspersed with a rich array of personal anecdotes, demonstration videos and props. It provided the interested audience with a perfect introduction to the joys of flying light aircraft.

The talk concluded with Pat’s exciting upcoming investment in a nippy new SHARK light aircraft to deliver a faster and more thrilling high-performance experience.

The evening concluded with a Q&A session followed by the draw to win a very generous prize from Mid Anglia Aviation of a 30 minute accompanied flight session. This fantastic experience was won by wannabe pilot Theo Chapallaz L5P.

The team from Mid Anglia Aviation will be at the Norfolk Show this year and would be pleased to hear from anyone interested in giving light aircraft flying a go: Contact - Mid Anglia Light Sport Aviation (mamicrolight.co.uk)
