Radio Room Refresh
March 23, 2026
FONS grant helps The Close Creatives Collective rebrand following huge success.

The Close Creatives Collective was established four years ago, originally as two separate groups - Close Conversations (which was the Norwich School Podcast Club) and Close Up (which was the Norwich School Photography Group).
However, as the success of the two groups developed and more and more pupils joined, it was apparent that there was a real appetite amongst pupils to apply their skills not just to podcasting and photography, but to creatives in general. Hence the Close Creatives Collective was established. It is both a Community Service option and an open members club for Lower 6 pupils. It is also recommended by the Head to all L6 pupils looking at a possible career in the creative arts.
The ethos of the group is to give members real experience in developing skills which could be useful within a career in the creative fields. Pupils have the chance to design, photograph, film, edit and broadcast, which they can use in their portfolios. A large element of the group is the school podcast, which really excites and inspires children throughout all year groups. However, the school’s radio room was relocated in 2024, into a former office in Bishop’s Palace, just outside the Old Music Room (OMR). Whilst extremely grateful for the space, which has given Close Creatives Collective a home, the room lacked any personality. A generous sum of £750 was awarded by FONS to help improve the visual aspect of the radio room.
Branding
One of our Close Conversations members designed a fantastic logo (see images). Inspired by these colours, two of the walls of the radio room have been painted this distinctive (BBC style) red. We have also had a vinyl made and installed on the front panel of the desk, which helps it look more like a professional radio station. In addition, we have had signage made to showcase where the room is, as it is otherwise hidden. In addition, an ON AIR light has been purchased to show when pupils are recording, as it can be a noisy room.
The pupils are absolutely delighted! Our sincere thanks to the Friends of Norwich School for making this happen – the grant awarded to Close Creatives Collective has been essential in establishing this as an important opportunity, both for the community service programme as well as pupils in L6 who are interested in a career in broadcasting, or who just have a passion for podcasts. There has also been a tremendous buzz around it which has meant more pupils joining throughout the term, which we hope to build on next year.
