Pastoral Care
About Pastoral Care
We understand that pupil wellbeing is inherently connected to academic progress - when pupils feel a sense of belonging, acceptance and understanding, they are more likely to achieve their absolute best.
We appreciate the potential vulnerability of pupils who hold protected characteristics and EDI work is an important thread within our pastoral support structure and curriculum. We believe that all pupils should be able to feel safe in bringing their identities to school.
We know that the adolescent years are full of a range of emotions and experiences; pupils in equal (or disproportionate) measure will feel excited, nervous, bored, challenged, stressed, inspired and motivated. At times friendships will feel difficult, at times motivation will dip, and all of this is entirely normal. We provide a range of avenues for support - some on a day-to-day basis, and
others available to any who encounter a difficult event or time in their lives, including those experiencing challenges with their mental health. Additional support may be necessary in the short term or could extend over a longer period, depending on individual need.
Learning about mental health and self-care is a vital element of the development of resilient lifelong skills and we encourage open dialogue in non-judgmental spaces to foster this.
