Norwich School sailing is based at the Norfolk Broads Yacht Club on Wroxham Broads and our club boasts a fleet of fireflies and feva racing dinghies. Our sailors enjoy weekly training with our specialist instructors, giving them the opportunity to prepare for local, regional and national regattas. Sailing is available as an option for pupils in Year 9 and above, and Years 7 and 8 have the option of an after school club from Easter to October half term. Those pupils wishing to enjoy a non-racing sailing programme can also do so with the 8th Norwich Sea Scouts. In addition, sailors can enjoy an extensive tour programme encompassing trips to the World Feva Championships in Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and throughout the UK.

There are a number of sailing fixtures in which we compete annually including the BSDRA West Regional Championships, BSDRA East Regional Championships, The Hoad Shield, BSDRA National Championships, Itchenor National Schools Regatta, RS Feva National Championships and the RS Feva World Championships. We regularly compete on a local and national level against schools including Royal Hospital School, Ryde School, Sevenoaks School and Millfield School.

Highlights of our 2023/24 season include pupils representing the Norfolk Broads Yacht Club and our Inters sailors securing victory in the South-Eastern Championships, winning the Hoad Shield.

The City Schools Cross Country at Redmayne serves as the qualifying round for the Norfolk Schools Championships that will take place early next term. Runners need to finish in the top 10 of their respective races, against runners from eight city-based schools, to make it through to the next round. On Monday we had thirteen hopefuls from L4 to M5 who were aiming to do just that. This year six of our runners were successful in qualifying. Conditions were perfect for running laps on the flat, slightly muddy course. In the Year 7 boys' race, Jonty Croskell ran consistently to finish 12th while Joshua Bevan came home in 4 th place. In the Intermediate girls' Lydia Hendry ran strongly but we had two qualifiers with Nona Griffiths finishing 7 th and Emi Muntingh 3rd. In the intermediate boys, Riccardo Di Maria secured his place in the County round by coming 7th. The rest of the team ran well with Harry Kensell 12th, Albie Cater 16th, Jonas Tam 19 th and Rory Normanton 26th. The performance of the day came from Ruby Ivie who won her race looking extremely comfortable. Against some very strong Senior boys, Noah Buchan ran with determination to come 10th. Well done to those runners who qualified for the County round, which will take place at Wymondham College in mid-January.

Jasmine Sargeant and Dominic Walker won the under 19 National Schools K2 Kayak Sprint Trophy, Marathon Trophy in the experience categories. They also scooped the mixed trophy for good measure retaining all three national Tites for a second year in a row. Hugo Dawe and Hayden Nundy won the Novice 500m kayak sprint race. The Norwich School team was completed by a gutsy contribution from Finn Elson and Edward Tickner racing paddlers four years older than them. On a long and challenging day of competition there were multiple events. A 500m sprint heat and final and a mass start 200m sprint elimination competition with the slowest three crew knocked out each round until just a final three were left racing for the 200m title, and in the afternoon a 10k marathon for the Elite Class and 7k for the Novice Class. Around eighty competitors from Schools all over the country took part. Norwich School kayaking continues to make an impressive impact at a National level.
