Netball is the main sport for girls in the Lent term, with some additional training opportunities within the Michaelmas term. Netball is accessible to all year groups; it is compulsory for girls in the Lent Term for Year 7 and 8, and thereafter it is offered as an option for pupils of all abilities from Year 9 upwards. Our Netball facilities include our onsite indoor sports hall and an outdoor training astro. These are complimented by routine access to the facilities at the award-winning UEA Sportspark for training and competitive fixtures. We are proud to have a wealth of experience within our team of coaches which is led by our Head of Netball, Gemma Ashton, whose current roles include Norfolk Netball County Player Development Lead, Norfolk U15 PDP Head Coach and London Mavericks PDP Head Coach.

In 2023-24 we played in an impressive total of 417 fixtures, with over 30 schools on the fixtures list; locally including Norwich High School for Girls, Gresham's, Town Close and Langley Prep; regionally and nationally including Finborough School, Woodbridge School, Oakham School, Berkhamsted School and Bedford Modern. The breadth in our fixture card ensures appropriate challenge for all levels of netballer. As well as weekend fixtures, we take part the Independent Schools National Netball Cup and Sisters N Sport Cup. We are extremely proud to be one of very few schools who regularly qualify in all age groups for the East Regional Round of the England Netball National Schools competition, and have reached the finals on three occasions in the U19 category, twice finishing within the top ten U19 teams in the country.

Our pupils are regularly selected within the Norfolk Netball Player Development Programme at U11, U13 and U15, as well as many of our pupils represented within the London Mavericks pathway.

Netball at Norwich School is for everyone and our aspiration is to foster a life long love of the game, but at the least, to provide a positive and inspiring experience for all of our pupils. Alongside this important participation strand, we have worked had to gain a well-respected reputation for being highly competitive and performance minded, and this is reflected in our serious approach to this side of our programme.

Rowing Report: Inter Regional Regatta and GB Trials On Saturday, 10 J15 and J16 rowers raced at Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham, representing the Eastern Region at the Junior Inter Regional Regatta. They competed against 13 other regions covering England, Scotland and Wales. Following the 1000m Time Trials, all crews reached the A Finals where the top 6 Regions from each time trial would race side by side over 1500m. The Girls J15 Coxed 4 of Harriet Brightwell, Freya Dixon, Hannah Conway, Baye Reynolds and Izi Mayhew moved up one place to finish 4 th. Charlotte Douglas and Amelie Ivie raced the Womens J16 Pair, and having tied with a crew in the TIme Trial they had a close race finishing 4 th by just a second. Ellie Thwaites had gained her selection as the fastest J16 Eastern Sculler and with 2 scullers selected she again came out as the 1 st Sculler for the Eastern Region, securing her a place in the A FInal. A 6 th place finish for Ellie placed her amongst some well established Scullers from across the UK. The penultimate race of the day was James Howard and Joseph Hawkes in the J16 Pair, and with 4 crews neck and neck down the course and the boys pushing to keep their bows in front the last 250m saw real tussle for the line. A mere 0.2 seconds separated the boys from the winning Thames London crew and achieving a well deserved Silver medal. On Sunday, Daniel White and Nicholas Conway were also racing at HolmePierrpont in the GB U19 Spring Trials Regatta, with all rowers who had progressed through the selection process with their ergo scores and February trials results. The trials followed a Regatta format with Heats, Semis and Finals. Daniel, along with his Latymer crew finished 30 th overall. Nicholas, despite his pairs partner from Shiplake College, only being confirmed on Saturday, had some great results early in the day to reach the A Final. A phonemonal race saw Nicholas finish as the 2 nd pair in Great Britain. Well done to both boys, and we wish them well in the next stage of the Trials process in July – the Crew Formation - to decide on crews for World and European Championships.

Saturday 8 March saw the final race in the East Anglian League against runners from Gresham’s, Ipswich and RHS. The team travelled to RHS to compete in sunny but windy conditions. In the Intermediate Boys, Kort Tsui ran a controlled race to finish 5th and Edward Lott, who has competed in every race this season came home in 7th. For the Senior Boys, our first finisher was Thomas Chester, coming 5th, closely followed by Jeremy Lo in 8th. The team was completed by Arthur Chan, Jacob Stevenson, Ollie Price and Thomas Hsia. Saturday also saw the English Schools’ Cross-Country Championships held this year in Nottingham. Even qualifying for this prestigious event is an incredible achievement. Minnie Andrews raced in the Under 17s and finished in the top 150 runners nationally: the second runner home from the Norfolk team of 8. Samuel Trickey competed in the Under 13s and ran a storming race, finishing 204 th and 3 rd within the Norfolk team. Congratulations to Minnie and Sam. Well done to everyone who has represented the Cross Country team this season.

It has been an action-packed term for the Netball Club, with a staggering 285 fixtures across the 2024/2025 season, which is testament to the commitment and enthusiasm of our pupils and staff. Lent term kicked off with the U14/U16/U19 National Schools squads preparing thoroughly for the Regional Finals on 1 st February. The U19 team battled to finish as 3 rd best team in the East Region and narrowly missed out on National Finals qualification. The U14 and U16 squads performed promisingly, being one result away from a semi-final place. This is an exciting performance from our Norwich School youngsters, particularly from the U16s, who were all U15 and eligible for next years competition. Post Regionals, there was no let up with weekly and block fixtures coming thick and fast. A particular high-light of the term was notching up victories across all of our A teams against a very competitive Perse School. The terms ends with a win ratio of 88% across our A team squads, and 67% across all teams. We have enjoyed hosting an U13 Development Tournament, U11 Tournament and U9 Netball Festival with nearly 50 teams taking part. The term ended with our usual Junior and Inters Netball Celebration events to recognise the impressive efforts of our amazing pupils this term. Special mentions must got to the 1 st VII for having an unbeaten season across their regular fixtures, and the U13A team who have a perfect playing record of 24/24 and the U13 County Cup title
