At Norwich School we aim to foster a player-centred and coach-led environment where all our coaching staff’s efforts are geared towards improving players both on and off the pitch. Football is offered as an option for our Senior Pupils in Year 11 and above, with the option open for boys in our Michaelmas Term and girls in the Lent Term. We also offer a 5-a-side programme for Seniors as a recreational option and our younger year groups – Years 7 and 8 – learn the principles of invasion games in their PE rotation. They are also offered a football taster programme during the Trinity Term. We have 2 grass pitches at our Redmayne Playing Fields as well as astro facilities at the Lower Close. Over the years we have seen a number of players represent Norfolk County FA, embark on football scholarships in America and play semi-professional or professional football. 


In the 2023/24 season we played a total of 13 fixtures against schools including Wymondham College, Bedford Modern School, St John’s School in Leatherhead, Gresham School, Culford School, Royal Hospital School, Repton School, Felsted School, Woodbridge School, Langley School and The Perse School.


Football is a rapidly growing and popular sports option. We have pupils playing for both the Norwich City Football Club – Academy and the Ipswich Town Football Club – Academy and we also reached the 3rd round of the Boodles Cup 2023.

Annual Norwich School Community Golf Day

Last Thursday, 60 golfers took to Barnham Broom to partake in the annual Norwich School Community Golf Day. Pupils, parents, ONs and staff all came together for a pleasant and competitive afternoon of team golf.  There were some excellent performances and comradery across the day, with the winning team of Herbie A (M5), Lawry W (ON, 2025), Kerry W and Floss A, shooting an impressive round of 62. Jack P (U6) won the nearest the pin challenge. It was brilliant to see pupils from the Lower School, right through to Upper 6 playing side-by-side, emphasising how golf continues to grow at Norwich School.

U15 Boys Tennis Team are Crowned County Champions!

The U15 Boys secured the county cup with a resounding 5-1 win over Gresham's Thursday 25 June. There were wins in the singles for : Raffy Pantazis, Josh Bond and Tom Jenkins. Tom then partnered Michael Sayers in a straightforward win in the doubles and the same was true for Raffy and Josh. Well done to these boys and Milo Delahunty and Herbie Andrews on their success and for representing the school so well throughout their campaign. They will go on to represent Norfolk in the regional rounds of the competition on their return in September. The U13 Boys also had a great win a Gresham's. The two Wills, Jenkins and Murphy, won their singles and doubles rubbers and Tom's brother Tom secured the overall win by winning his singles match. The final score was a 4-2 victory. The team were again in action on Tuesday against a very strong Notre Dame side. Will and Tom had tough singles matches as did Freddie Hollinger but captain, Will Jenkins kept us in the contest with a bullish victory in a tiebreak. However, they proved too strong for us in the doubles and won the match 1-4 and with it Notre Dame became the county champions.

Representing England at the Under-19 European Korfball Championships

Cara B, Lower 6, represented England in their Under-19 squad at the European Korfball Championships in Türkiye. Cara shares her experience below. Over the Easter holidays, I had the incredible opportunity to represent England as part of the Under-19 squad at the European Korfball Championships in Turkey. Korfball is a mixed-gender team sport that originated in the Netherlands and combines elements of basketball and netball. Each team consists of four male and four female players, with players switching between attack and defence every two goals. The tournament began with group-stage fixtures against Czechia, Slovakia, Poland, Portugal and Hungary. Our opening match was against a strong Czech side, who went on to come second overall. Despite a determined effort, we were defeated 17-8 in our first game. However, we responded brilliantly later that day with a convincing 12-2 win over Slovakia. At the end of day 1, we remained in contention for a strong finish in the competition. Day 2 proved to be another challenging but rewarding day. We started with an impressive 13-8 win against Poland before facing Portugal in a crucial match. Despite our efforts, Portugal edged us out in a hard-fought 13-10 defeat at full time after a goal for goal match. We finished the day strongly with an excellent 23-14 victory over Hungary, one of our highest-scoring performances of the tournament. Going into the final day, we were determined to secure the highest possible placing. This set up a closely contested placement match against the host nation, Turkey. The game was highly competitive, with both teams going goal for goal for much of the match. We held our nerve in the closing stages to secure a 16-13 win, earning England a final placing of 5th in Europe. Cara's recent success at Korfball, has been mirrored by an outstanding performance on the netball court this season. Cara was a key member of the Norwich School 1 st VII who finished an impressive 11 th in the country this season, as well as representing her netball club, Norfolk United in the National Premier League, the highest club league in the country. Head of Netball, Gemma Ashton comments "Cara has made an immense contribution to Norwich School Netball since joining us in L6 and her considerable talent on court is matched by her dedication and commitment off it. Her success this season is fully deserved and we are very proud of all she has achieved. Cara is also a Norwich School Sport Scholar, and we are delighted that this programme was able to contribute towards funding her attendance at the Korfball European Championships."
