Another year, another fantastic Norfolk Summer School! What an absolute privilege to welcome 138 Year 12 students from 20 schools across the region, for three days of enriching academic activity in Cathedral Close. It was exciting to see so many young people come together from so many different settings but with one common purpose: to supercharge their journey to higher education. Attendees enjoyed expert-led subject tutorials, one-to-one clinics, and practice interviews, as well as talks on personal statements, student finance, the Oxbridge teaching system, degree apprenticeships, and studying in London. Perhaps most of all, though, they enjoyed the meeting of minds as they explored the subjects they love in the company of academic kindred spirits. The week was delivered by an impressive team: subject specialists from Norwich School (staff and alumni), medical students, law specialists, and the outreach lead from the University of East Anglia, and interview coaches from AVIVA. With keynote addresses from Nigel Cushion (Nelson's Spirit), Dr Gabriel Astorga (2025 Future Presenter Award winner at the Amplify X New Voice Awards), and Martin Schmierer (Norwich City Councillor and Lord Mayor, 2018–19), students left inspired and empowered to take their next steps. On a sunny Sunday in June, we were delighted to host another Discover Your Ability Day with Able2B, whose amazing team help to improve function for children and adults with a disability, optimising aerobic fitness and muscle strength, as well as improving concentration and self-confidence in a fun way. Around 60 Norwich School pupils joined more than 240 participants and even more supporters, for an incredible day, which saw young and old coming together for cycling and running/walking events at Norwich School and around Cathedral Close. Working with partners during training sessions at the Able2B gym before the big day, participants spent time with their teammates across several months before the final event, learning about each other's differences and working together to harness those differences as strengths rather than barriers. The 2026 event was the biggest yet, with incredible moments around the course and as participants crossed the finish line, with family, friends and supporters. Many achieved what they had previously been told would never be possible and received medals from Millie Partridge (GB Wheelchair Rugby), Nigel Cushion (Chair of Nelsonspirit) and Paul Evans (GB/Olympics athlete and Chicago Marathon winner). We can't wait to support next year's event and make it even bigger and better!
The Lower School Chamber Choir recently enjoyed a wonderful musical collaboration, welcoming their friends from Boucher School from London for a special afternoon choir workshop. The session was filled with energy, enthusiasm and creativity, as the children worked together to learn a selection of new songs, including Only You , Scarborough Fair , and Count on Me by Bruno Mars. Guided by three talented choir leaders, the pupils embraced the opportunity to develop their vocal skills, build confidence and experience the joy of singing as part of a larger ensemble. One of the highlights of the day was the chance to work with different choir leaders, each bringing their own unique style and expertise. The children responded brilliantly, showing focus, teamwork and a genuine love of music throughout the workshop. The day culminated in a special concert held in the Senior School Chapel, where the combined choirs performed to an enthusiastic and supportive audience. The performance was a true celebration of the hard work and dedication shown by all involved, and the Chapel was filled with uplifting harmonies and smiles. Head of Music, Mr Vine, praised the event, saying: “A wonderful afternoon and evening with some fantastic music making. Well done to Boucher School and the Lower School Chamber Choir for all their hard work, and a big thank you to our fantastic choir leaders.” It was a memorable experience for everyone involved, and a shining example of the power of music to bring people together.
