Author, Hannah Gold, Visits Norwich Cathedral
October 1, 2024
On Tuesday 1 October, Norwich School and Waterstones were thrilled to welcome acclaimed children's author Hannah Gold to Norwich Cathedral for a special author event. Held in the awe-inspiring nave of the cathedral, the event saw pupils from nine local primary schools gather in excitement and anticipation to hear Hannah speak about her latest book, Turtle Moon.
Hannah, a previous winner of the prestigious Waterstones Children’s Book Prize and the Blue Peter Book Award 2022, captivated her young audience with tales of her passion for animals and her inspiration for Turtle Moon. She shared fascinating insights from her time spent in Costa Rica, where she observed turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs. This experience became a driving force behind the creation of her latest book.
The event was both interactive and humorous, with Hannah encouraging pupils to participate in a lively quiz. One fun fact that surprised everyone was that leatherback turtles can grow up to an impressive 8 feet long. As the pupils listened attentively, they not only learned about turtles but also gained a deeper appreciation for wildlife conservation.
Lower School pupils were especially delighted to receive signed copies of Hannah's books. Imogen from Lower Three shared her excitement, commenting that she enjoyed the quiz and was surprised to learn that turtles are smaller than she had imagined. Fellow pupil Izu remarked that she loved the extract Hannah read from Turtle Moon and couldn’t wait to dive into the book herself, when she got home from school. Zoe discovered that polar bears are classified as marine animals, a fact that sparked her curiosity.
Throughout the event, the cathedral buzzed with excitement and enthusiastic conversations about books and animals. Pupils from all schools left feeling inspired by Hannah’s talk and eager to explore the wonders of the natural world through reading.
The event was a resounding success, leaving everyone with a newfound appreciation for both literature and wildlife conservation.
