An evening with award-winning film director Barney Broom (60-70)
January 15, 2026
You are invited to attend Barney’s unique talk exploring the captivating world of film
On behalf of the Friends of Norwich School (FONS), we have great pleasure in introducing the first of its kind in our annual events programme: a one-off lecture on 28 January 2026, which we hope will be of interest to all of those fascinated by the world of film. A special FONS-sponsored public lecture given by Old Norvicensian, raconteur and film buff Barney Broom exploring the amazing history of the film industry.
With a lifetime working in film, Barney Broom is a member of BAFTA and the Director’s Guild of Great Britain. He is an award-winning film director and acclaimed novelist with an extensive knowledge of the Hollywood and British film industries. He regularly delivers public talks, frequently on cruises. See: www.barneyfilms.co.uk.
There promises to be something for all generations: from film’s humble origins in black-and-white classics, through to the current blockbusters, Barney brings us right up to date with the latest AI creations. He explores what makes some films absolute classics, how iconic films were made, the impact of key films on the industry, how film star careers were made (and lost) and how the industry continues to be at the forefront of technological advances.
Barney is kindly volunteering his expertise and, with his agreement, all profits will go to the Friends of Norwich School charity to support bursaries at Norwich School.
