Lower School Carol Service
December 5, 2024
The Lower School carol service at Norwich Cathedral was a truly magical afternoon, set against a beautiful dusky backdrop that added to the sense of wonder. The majestic cathedral, with its soaring arches and stained-glass windows, created the perfect setting for a celebration of Christmas spirit and joy.
The service began with a chorister solo of "Once in Royal David's City" by U3 pupil Felix Tooley, whose voice filled the vast space with clarity and emotion, setting the tone for the afternoon. The tableau acting from the Lower 2 students was equally captivating, with their reverence and poise enhancing the storytelling of the Christmas story.
The performances that followed were nothing short of beautiful. The Little Voices Choir, the Infant Choir, the Chamber Choir, and the School Choir all sang with exceptional harmony and warmth, each bringing their own unique spirit to the service. But it was the rendition of "Silent Night" by the whole school that left a lasting impression. The choir spread throughout the cathedral, even in the side aisles, creating an ethereal atmosphere that seemed to envelop the entire space in peace and light.
As the service drew to a close, the Upper 3 Choristers and Upper 3 girls performed a haunting version of "The Candle Song," their voices blending perfectly as the lights were dimmed. The cathedral, bathed in the soft glow of a single candle, created a serene and poignant moment that captured the true essence of Christmas.
This carol service was a testament to the talent, dedication, and reverence of everyone involved, leaving all in attendance with a deep sense of joy and reflection.
