Friends of Norwich School support sees club double in size with fantastic results!

The VEX Robotics Club continues to go from strength to strength. Thanks to the generous donation from the Friends of Norwich School, we were able to purchase an additional robotics kit, allowing even more pupils to take part. As a result, the club has doubled in size since last year: we have grown from around 15 pupils to over 30 pupils who now attend our lunchtime sessions regularly. We run the club every lunchtime both because of its popularity and because of the significant amount of work involved in designing and building a robot for the VEX IQ Robotics Competition.
Pupils work in teams of three to six to design, build, programme and drive their robots. Each April, the release of the new annual competition challenge is eagerly anticipated. Through the process of developing and refining their robots, pupils build a wide range of skills, including engineering design, programming, strategic thinking and teamwork.
This year has been one of our most successful yet. We competed in two Mix and Match competitions, achieving our strongest results to date. In November, one of our L5 teams won the entire event, earning the “Teamwork Champion” trophy and automatic qualification for the National Championships in March. In our second competition, our remaining three teams performed exceptionally well: our other L5 team achieved joint first place in the “Skills Challenge”, and both our L4 and U4 teams narrowly missed out on the “Teamwork Champion” trophy in the finals. We are looking forward to taking our L5 team to the National Championships in March and to building on this year’s achievements as the club continues to grow.
