SENIOR SCHOOL RAISES OVER £1700 FOR THE TRUSSELL TRUST
October 20, 2022
Last Friday the school's Charities Committee organised a Home Clothes Day. Pupils were invited to come into school in their home clothes and were encouraged to make a donation for the charity.
In the weeks leading up to the day, the Charities Committee had shortlisted a number of charities which they voted to take through to a school-wide vote and pupils throughout the Senior School then cast their vote to decide on the charity they would like to support this term.
The successful charity was The Trussell Trust which provides emergency food and support to people locked in poverty. Once the charity had been chosen, a representative from The Trussell Trust was invited to speak at a special assembly led by Pippa Garrod, U6 Red Gown responsible for Partnerships and Head of Charities.
Sarah Bridges, who teaches PE and Games here at Norwich School, was particularly delighted at the choice of charity, as she had volunteered for their Norwich Food Bank during lockdown. We caught up with Sarah to find out more...
"During the first lockdown in Springtime of 2020, I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to volunteer at Norwich Food Bank. I am slightly embarrassed to say that this was the first time I had volunteered to help others and upon reflection it is one of the most meaningful things I have ever done.
The shifts consisted of putting together food and welfare boxes for the community of Norwich and Norfolk. Boxes to feed a family of four, a couple or individual boxes given to people that only had access to a kettle. I saw first-hand how the generous donations not only of money but of people's time could have such a valuable impact to others in need and as such I am overjoyed that our community will be able to support this charity."
Throughout the day, members of Close Up, the school's photography club, took pictures of pupils enjoy a relaxed school day in their home clothes.
Pupils were offered the opportunity to donate by cash, credit card or online through JustGiving and we are delighted to have raised a staggering £1714.68 for The Trussell Trust. Well done to Pippa and the Charities Committee for your fantastic organisation and to everyone for your generous donations!
