Rocket Engineer, Rachel Wright (ON) Encourages Pupils to Find their Passion and Pursue it
January 22, 2025
We were delighted to welcome Rachel Wright (ON) back to Norwich School on Wednesday 22 January to deliver a Business Breakfast about her fascinating study and career pathways since leaving in 2019. It's not often we can say pupils had the chance to speak to a rocket scientist, and they grasped the opportunity with terrific enthusiasm!
Pupils from Lower 4 to Upper 6 signed up to hear Rachel discuss her time at Lancaster University studying Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology, followed by an MSc at Cranfield University. Unexpected changes of direction and keeping an open mind ensured that Rachel excelled in her studies, developing the skills, resilience and confidence which led to her current job as a Fluid Systems Engineer at Orbex. Rachel explained her role, answered questions and challenged pupils to find their passion and pursue it. We can't always know what the career outcome will be, but we can know whether we're enjoying the journey. A truly inspiring presentation which gave everyone a lot to think about: the range of jobs within a rapidly developing space industry was awe-inspiring.
Rachel generously spent the rest of the day at school, speaking with Sixth Form pupils about their higher education plans, working with younger pupils in their Physics lessons and enjoying being back in her old educational stomping ground! Thank you so much to Rachel for coming in!
