Ski Success! - Norwich School Ski Teams Raced in Regional ESSKIA qualifier
September 22, 2024
On Sunday 22 September, Norwich School ski teams travelled to Welwyn for the regional ESSKIA qualifier.
The boys team are defending English and British champions so were expected to perform strongly here. They lived up to expectations with Toby Watson 1st, George Snelling 3rd, Rufus Snelling 4th and Marcus Pop 6th overall and the team being the fastest on the day by a clear margin. Rufus and Marcus were also 1st and 2nd in the U16 age category. The team qualifies for the next round and will race in the English finals to defend their title in October.
The girls team put in a strong performance, with Antonia Watson 1st, Mirabelle Harden 3rd, Sophie Slinger 17th and Ella Barnovschi 20th in a field of 60 competitors. The team finished 3rd in a tight category and also qualify for the English finals. The Lower School mixed team of Ianis Pop and Emily Slinger skied well under the pressure of having to make both runs count and were 1st placed with Ianis the fastest skier on the day in the stubbies course and Emily 14th out of 30 girls. They also qualified for the English finals!
Good luck to all teams in the English finals on October 12th. Anyone interested in school ski racing please contact Mr Cheongvee
