Lower 3 Residential to Leicestershire
September 20, 2024
After an early start we arrived at the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre where we quickly learnt what it was like to be a soldier in 1485! We learnt about weapons, battlefield strategy and how to march into battle. We even had the opportunity to dress up in armour and the chain mail proved to be very heavy! After a busy day, we made our way to the National Forest Youth Hostel for our two-night stay.
The second day was spent at the huge National Space Centre in Leicester. We enjoyed watching a live rocket-science show, followed by experiencing a tour of the planets in our solar system in the Sir Thomas Moore Planetarium. The rest of the day was spent exploring the interactive elements of the many galleries and of course the must-see rocket tower!
On our final day we visited Bradgate Park near Leicester, the childhood home of Lady Jane Grey. We re-enacted the nine-day reign of the Tudor queen and learnt about how people lived in her family home in the 16th century. Bradgate Park is a beautiful country park, with hills, woods and follies and we took a walk up the hill to St John’s Tower. On the way we enjoyed the wonderful sight of the wild herds of red and fallow deer roaming freely.
