Born and educated in Cape Town, South Africa, Yvette completed a B.Mus (Hons) in Music and History at the University of Cape Town, and then an M.Mus in Historical Musicology at King’s College, London. She completed a Law Conversion Graduate Diploma in Law with the College of Law.

Over the past 30 years she has taught at both preparatory and secondary levels, and held the position of Director of Music at Milton Abbey, Dorset, and then at St George’s School, Windsor Castle. Her first Headship was of The Chorister School in Durham, and she currently serves as Head and Master over the Choristers at King’s College School, Cambridge. 

Yvette has recently completed her tenure as Chair of the Choir Schools’ Association and continues to serve as one of their Trustees.
