Textiles Masterclass with Lizzie Kimbley for Middle 5
November 10, 2025
The Middle 5 3D students were fortunate to take part in a workshop led by local textile artist Lizzie Kimbley. During her visit, students learned about Lizzie’s artistic practice, her sources of inspiration, and her strong focus on sustainability within her work. She demonstrated how to create cordage, a technique involving the twisting and binding of fibres, which students were then able to apply to their own vessel project being completed this term. Because Lizzie’s work is inspired by nature, students found her approach easy to relate to, as their own vessels are also based on the theme of natural forms. The workshop was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone and provided a valuable opportunity to see how a practising textile artist works creatively. Many students have already begun incorporating the skills they learned into their vessels, enhancing their designs and deepening their understanding of material exploration.
