Pupils Wow Audiences with the Return of Musical Theatre Nights
February 10, 2025
Cleo Gregory (U6) reports on the return of the infamous Musical Theatre Nights.
It was wonderful to see the annual return of Posy Walton’s Musical Theatre Nights in the Blake Studio on the 27th January and 10th February, which once again did not disappoint! With tickets being completely sold out on release, demand was high and the nights succeeded without a doubt. Whether you were there to support a friend or were a die hard musical theatre fan, there was something for everyone with performances from musicals old and new; niche and well known. On both nights the audiences were brilliantly enthusiastic and left rave reviews!
I was fortunate enough to perform on both nights, singing a duet with Ben Griffiths (‘Fine’ from Ordinary Days) on the first night, and a solo (‘What Baking Can Do’ from Waitress) on the second. Though it felt quite scary to walk on stage having watched the other students’ outstanding performances, the feeling during and after performing was incredible, and has always been a highlight for me since my first ever musical theatre night in M5. It was also lovely to have seen some of the younger performers progress over the years, and it made me feel very proud and lucky to have watched their journey.
There were 25 performers on the first night and 31 on the second, all of which gave incredibly impressive and heartfelt performances regardless of age or experience level, and there was such a wonderful supportive atmosphere created both by my peers and the audience on both nights. A big thank you to all who were involved, especially to Posy Walton for everything she put into the evenings - they are such an integral part of the performing arts at Norwich School and I will definitely miss them when I leave next year!
