NORWICH SCHOOL PUPILS ACHIEVE REMARKABLE SUCCESS AT PRESTIGIOUS ESSAY COMPETITION
July 21, 2023
The Norfolk Cambridge Society (NCS) runs an annual essay competition for Year 13/Upper Sixth pupils to foster their learning and intellectual curiosity.
Now in its fourth year, the annual competition is open for entry to those who have secured offers of places to Cambridge University from across the county. Those qualifying were asked to submit a short essay response to the question: ‘What or who inspired you to apply to study your chosen subject at Cambridge, and why does that subject matter to you and to society in general?’
Shortlisted candidates from Norwich School who made it through to the second round were:
May Maclennan (U6V) - hoping to study Asian and Middle Eastern Studies with Mandarin at Newnham College
Charlie Windle (U6C) - hoping to study Classics at Gonville and Caius College
Mirha Kashif (U6R) - hoping to study Medicine at Newnham College
George Bowyer (U6R) - hoping to study Veterinary Science at Sidney Sussex College
Following a rigorous interview in the second round conducted by a panel of experienced academics in the NCS Committee, results were announced at the end of Trinity Term. The organisers were impressed and delighted with the high quality and engagement of all entries.
Remarkable success for Norwich School was secured for this county-wide competition with May, Charlie and George securing winning awards of £500 each and Mirha winning a runners-up £100 award. We wish them well for their upcoming A Level results in August and offer our hearty congratulations on their achievements.
Awards will be presented at the next NCS public lecture, the 18th in their series, which will take place at 18:30 on Thursday 28 September at Norwich School. The speaker will be Roger Mosey, Master of Selwyn College, Cambridge and former Editorial Director at the BBC and Head of BBC Television News. His topic will be “Delivering Truth in a Tribal World”. Tickets for adults or accompanied sixth formers are on sale here: Lecture: Delivering Truth in a Tribal World – Norfolk Cambridge Society.
