NORWICH SCHOOL PUPILS RECEIVE VITAL LIFE SAVING SKILLS
July 17, 2023
On Tuesday 20 June, we were delighted to welcome East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA), who visited school to train 150 of our Lower 6 pupils in CPR.
With low survival rates from out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the UK, training individuals in basic CPR helps save lives. EAAA wants to ensure “anyone in East Anglia suffering an out of hospital cardiac arrest receives effective early CPR from the public or a professional to achieve the best possible patient outcome.”
During the day the pupils worked in pairs to learn CPR and how to use a defibrillator. The sessions included theory, as well as practical demonstrations and practice. Moving forwards, we hope to continue the training with pupils now familiar with CPR sharing their skills and life-saving knowledge with others
to ensure as many of our pupils as possible learn this vital life skill.
Matthew Jones, Chief Executive of East Anglian Air Ambulance, said:
“Working with the school has been such a positive experience and it is fantastic to see so many pupils receiving instruction on this useful skill. We look forward to continuing to work with Norwich School.”
Norwich School pupils Dan, Ottilie and Natasha, reported:
“This important interactive session taught us all the skills we need to be prepared for conducting CPR on an individual in the event of cardiac arrest. We were also shown the signs we need to look out for if we think a person may be in danger, and how to locate the nearest defibrillator when needed. The session was full of important messages to take forward in life and thank you to EAAA for sharing their time and life-saving knowledge with us”
Georgie Valpied, Head of Welfare said:
“This is the first day of training and the start to a strong partnership that will work together to ensure further members of our community being trained in this essential life skill.”
We look forward to our next training session in the new academic year.
