NORWICH SCHOOL ORIENTEERING CLUB RETAINS TROPHY!
October 4, 2022
Twelve members of the orienteering club competed at the East Anglian Schools championships at Haughley Park in Suffolk on Sunday. After training on Friday evenings since the start of term, this was the first competition for several members of this young squad, and they all acquitted themselves very well.
On the Junior Girls course, Beth Stockham (L4N) got her school career off to a great start by winning a gold medal, defeating her closest rival from the Perse by 4 minutes, over the 2.5km course.
We had eight runners on the Junior Boys course. Noah Yassin, Will Duncan and Dylan Trickey all ran particularly well to finish in the top ten, while Marcus Richardson (L4R) won the race, beating the British champion in a very close finish by just four seconds to secure the gold medal.
The Seniors were faced with a tough 5km course, though a mixture of forest and open fields. Joel Fox (U5S) produced one of his best ever runs to secure a silver medal, and Imie James (L6B) once again showed her great determination in winning a bronze medal.
Individual results were combined to calculate the overall winning school, and this proved to be a very close battle between the top three schools. The Perse and Barnadiston Hall were narrowly beaten, and Norwich School retained the trophy by a single point.
