Pupils Enjoy Musical Masterclass From Celebrated Pianist Libby Burgess

15 November 2021

Celebrated pianist Libby Burgess visited Norwich School on Thursday 11 November as part of Project 48 - Libby's quest to perform Bach's 48 Prelude and Fugues in all 48 English counties.

Before her epic evening performance in the Cathedral, Libby met with Music Scholars and Exhibitioners from Lower 4 all the way up to Upper 6. In the masterclass, several pupils played pieces by J.S Bach and both pupils and audience learnt many different aspects of performing this most special and revered of composers. To quote Johannes Brahms, 'study Bach, there you will find everything'!

A number of pupils from the wider community also joined us from Loddon Junior School, Norwich High School for Girls, Thetford Academy and City of Norwich School. As we tentatively re-emerge from the pandemic, it was wonderful to welcome Libby and our visiting pupils to Norwich School. It highlighted how much we have all missed making music together and gaining insight from visiting experts. Through these inspirational workshops, pupils are galvanised into continuing with their demanding but rewarding musical journeys.

We look forward to welcoming more leading musicians as part of the Making Musicians programme in the Lent term. Further information on the Making Musicians programme can be found here.

Project 48 is raising money for musical charities in the wake of the pandemic. For more information on Libby's project and how to donate please click here.
