Ben Luck (U6) raised over £500 for Sonam Norbu Memorial Hospital, Leh, Ladakh

Mrs Saywack was able to hand over the money raised by Ben to the Deputy Medical Superintendent of the SNM Hospital in Leh.

My abiding memory of the Sonam Norbu Memorial Hospital in Leh from last year was of Ben wearing an oxygen mask for the best part of two days, thereby becoming a nice, healthy pink colour once more and subsequently able to complete the high altitude Shang Pass trek.  Before the School party left Leh last year, I made a donation to the hospital on behalf of Norwich School in sheer gratitude for Ben's recovery.  I guess Ben's memories are not much different but his gratitude prompted him to raise money for the hospital over the past year.  Dr. Yangchen Dolma, the Superintendent of the Hospital, was so impressed by Ben's efforts that she arranged to have his contribution recognised on local radio and made sure a picture of Ben and details of his donation were posted up in the tourist ward of the Hospital.  Ben's money will also be spent in that ward, particularly in the delivery of oxygen to those suffering from Acute Mountain Sickness.  The picture shows Dr. Angchuk (Deputy Medical Superintendent) receiving the money from myself, while Mr. Dorje Tsewang (the travel agent who organised the Norwich School trekking in Ladakh) stands as witness on the right.  I cannot thank Ben enough for raising money for such a worthwhile cause and truly living up to the 'compassion' part of Norwich School's ethos.
