Miss Tivey Is Interviewed for International Women's Day

As part of our activities to mark International Women’s Day this week, pupils were invited to nominate someone within our community who inspires them. Our L6 Close Up Community Service team have been out and about interviewing the nominees.

Starting with Miss Tivey, who contacted Tilly Hill all the way from Switzerland, where she is now teaching. Miss Tivey was nominated because she “inspires me to do girls football and as a result I am now in the Girls 1st XI for the school. Miss Tivey was also a huge supporter of my Send a Smile Campaign and helped me to promote it within school."

Here is Tilly's interview...

  1. Who are you?

My name is Elle Tivey, and I am a former member of Norwich School staff. I started working at Norwich School in 2019 as a Sports Teacher, but left to pursue a role at a boarding school in Switzerland earlier this year.

  1. What do you do?

I was a Teacher of Sport at Norwich School, as well as Assistant Director of Sport, and I also spent a year as Head of Brooke House. My role encompassed many different things; teaching in the classroom, teaching practical sport, organising major school sporting events and extracurricular activities, as well as being a tutor. I particularly enjoyed my time as Head of Brooke; it was so much fun getting to know the pupils better, and to support and encourage them in various school activities.

  1. How long have they been at Norwich School?

I was a teacher at Norwich School for 3 ½ years. But, I was also a former pupil at Norwich School for 6th Form back in 2010-12; so it was extra special to return as a teacher!

  1. What's the best bit about your job / what do you love most about Norwich School?

I absolutely loved working at Norwich School, and it is hard to pin point the best thing about it. Even though I am now working in Switzerland, Norwich School is somewhere I will always consider to be a very important part of my life - and next week when I come home to Norwich for my holidays I will look forward to walking through the Cathedral Close - a place which holds many fantastic memories!

  1. What does it mean to you to be nominated?

I was really touched to be nominated - it was such a lovely surprise when Mrs Hill messaged me about it! As a teacher you hope that you can make some sort of small difference to the pupils you work with, and to be nominated is so lovely.

But I have to say that the young lady who nominated me (and I think I know who she is!) should also be mentioned and celebrated. She worked tirelessly during Covid and even afterwards to spread a message of hope and positivity to those who needed it most in such challenging times, with her Send a Smile campaign. She is an inspiration too, and a great role model for younger pupils.

  1. Who inspires you?

I think I am inspired by lots of people. Friends, family, colleagues, pupils, and some of my own former teachers (who believe it or not are still working at Norwich School)! All of whom have had a very positive impact on my life in one way or another, and have helped and supported me to get to where I am today. Thank you!
