FemSoc's Inspirational Women - Day 1, Greta Gerwig

This week, to celebrate International Women’s Day, FemSoc are showcasing some of their most inspirational women, starting today with director, Greta Gerwig.

Last summer, Greta Gerwig became a household name, following the success of her film, Barbie. As a director and writer, she seeks to make films featuring strong, feminist women, and her films have been nominated for multiple Oscars. With Barbie, not only did she win recognition for the highest grossing film directed solely by a woman, but for the highest grossing film of the year.

Another film that Gerwig is famous for is her 2019 adaptation of Little Women, which was released to huge critical acclaim. With Barbie, Little Women, and another film, Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig has become the first female solo filmmaker to have three nominations in the Academy Award for Best Picture.

It is safe to say that she is a force to watch out for in the filmmaking world.
