London Dance Residential
February 13, 2025
In February, a group of 20 senior pupils travelled to London to experience a range of professional dance practise. Arriving on Wednesday afternoon, the group launched straight into two Commercial classes at Base Dance Studios. The group were put through their paces in a packed sweaty studio, exploring everything in this style from the masc to the femme! They even had the chance to dance alongside working professionals in an open session.
Following this, the group spent the evening at Wembley Troubadour Theatre, experiencing the roller-skating whirlwind that is the Starlight Express revival!
Thursday saw another jam-packed day, with pupils travelling early doors to Urdang Musical Theatre and Dance conservatoire. Here, they were lucky enough to witness undergraduate pupils in class in a range of styles, as well as a tour of the building and a comprehensive and informative information and Q&A session.
They moved straight on to The Place, experiencing another Conservatoire of dance in a completely different style. Here, the Contemporary dance school showcased a Popping/locking class with their undergrads, another full tour of the beautiful building and Q&A session. The day culminated in a ‘Flying Low’ class for the group with one of The Place’s resident teachers. This certainly pushed the group out of their comfort zones, working through creative and physical floorwork tasks – a few bruises were sustained for pupils before they headed home!
A brilliant trip with a range of experience, the pupils were a credit to the school from start to finish.
