Jon Gent
Mr Gent is an Old Norvicensian having been a pupil here from 1986-1993. As a pupil he was heavily involved in rugby playing in the 1st XV, music playing in the First Band and Gateway Players and singing in the Chapel Choir, sailing in the school team and was a keen member of the 8th Norwich Sea Scouts. Graduating from Southampton in 1997 with a BSc (Hons) in Biology with Oceanography is passionate about the marine environment. He sailed professionally for 5 years skippering sail training ships and gaining a love of working with young people whilst sailing around the coasts of Brittany, Great Britain and the Channel Islands and the coasts of Holland and Scandanavia.
A change in career saw Mr Gent return to Norfolk to study for his PGCE in Science at UEA before joining Dereham Neatherd High School and then moving to Guildford to work at The Royal Grammar School in 2007. He returned to Norwich School in 2011 as Head of Biology and then transferred to Head of Seagrim House in September 2020 having been a pupil in Brooke House and a tutor in School House. He continues to sail with his family and help run the school sailing team, as well as being leader in charge of the 8th Norwich Sea Scouts Starboard Watch; leading a wide range of outdoor activities and is a Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition assessor. In his spare time, Mr Gent can be found coaching youth rugby at Wymondham Rugby Club, keeping bees and maintaining his smallholding.
