Japanese at the Lower School
February 5, 2025
On the afternoon of 5 February, L3B were treated to a lesson on Japanese. Our visitor, Yuri Teramura, is a PHD student from the University of Kyoto, Japan. She has been in England on placement at the University of Leicester.
She spent the day with us looking at WoLLoW to help her research on the Language Awareness Approach of the 1980s.
Lower 3 pupils learnt about the three Japanese scripts, made shapes with their body to represent different Japanese characters and learnt some Japanese phrases. Yuri was so impressed with the school on the whole and especially L3B, who were engaged, polite and incredibly interested. They had questions, such as "How do you say Mount Fuji in Japanese?" and "How do you learn all the characters?". They had an impressive level of prior cultural knowledge and all said they loved sushi!
