Greenpower Team Races at Lotus Test Track
June 30, 2025
With help from FONS, the Greenpower Team attended the 2025 Formula 24 Heats at the Lotus test track.

We are delighted to be running the Greenpower Club again this school year and have brought forward many learnings around motor efficiency from last year’s competitions. The team is made up of L5 and M5 pupils with L6 helping across many aspects of engineering and we have been rewarded with improvements over the past year as we continually test and analyse the data.
In May, the Greenpower Team attended the 2025 Formula 24 Heat at the Lotus test track at Hethel. For many in the team, it was their first time at a Heat and racing the car. We also found out that our Team number was now 118 - it was 258 last season. It turns out that teams are given a new number at the start of each season, corresponding to their national ranking. This was great news.
The team did very well, with strong placements in each of the two races despite some brake and battery issues. These were all resolved, and the car recorded some good lap times. There are still improvements to be made, and work continues to make the car more competitive.
The battery care system has almost finished construction, enabling the team to improve the life and efficiency of the batteries, by controlled charging and discharging.
We are also developing the role of the L6 pupils further, starting at the start of the year, with the aim that the car places in the top 15 or higher in the next Heat.
In addition to the items detailed previously, more racing gear has been purchased using the FONS award, meaning that there is a greater range and availability of helmets, gloves and overalls for pupils to use during racing.
The team continues to be very grateful for the significant support of the FONS and the ongoing progress made possible by the funds provided. We have been able to purchase new driving kits (helmets, overalls, gloves) for the team, alongside apparatus for soldering/electrics for the drivers. FONS have also helped cover costs for thermal conductivity, bulbs, current control, an ‘e-chook’ telemetry kit, a new steering wheel, as well as batteries and chargers.
We look forward to competing next year!
