Green Group Invites Pupils to Think Green!
May 28, 2026
Thanks to funding by FONS, Green Group is supporting pupils to foster long-term responsible habits.
Green Group is committed to encouraging sustainable practices within our school community. This initiative specifically targets 6th form students, promoting the use of reusable cups in school café spaces; the OMR in the Palace and the café at Upper King Street. By encouraging students to bring their own cups from home, the aim is to reduce single-use cup waste and foster long-term environmentally responsible habits.
The majority of the funds from FONS have been allocated to purchasing reusable cups, which are to be offered at a subsidised rate to pupils. This ensures that all sixth Form have access to affordable, environmentally friendly options, removing financial barriers to participation.
To further encourage students to bring their reusable cups, Green Group subsidised the cost of hot drinks on 29th and 30th January. This short-term incentive was designed to give students a positive, practical experience using their reusable cups and help reinforce the habit.
On Thursday 29 January approximately 50 free hot drinks were given away in the OMR to pupils who had either brought their own cups from home or purchased a cup.
Friday was also a resounding success with over 150 pupils claiming a free hot chocolate from the catering van using reusable cups, and this is where a large amount of the cups were sold. With the OMR and Kings Street sales too, this pushed the number of pupils using reusable cups on Friday to over 200.
Since the Green Group’s promotion was implemented, the Refectory has seen a rise of pupils claiming 50p off a hot drinks both at breakfast and break, with numbers having doubled compared to before the promotion. The Refectory is committed to this project and believes numbers could still rise further.
Funding has been allocated to ensure maximum impact: the purchase of subsidised reusable cups provides a long-term solution, while subsidised hot drinks offer immediate encouragement and engagement. Our grateful thanks to the Friends of Norwich School in helping us fund these initiatives and to the catering staff for their help and support.
