Words from David:
I’ve never been much of a runner, in fact up until recently, I hadn’t run over 12km since I was 17 at the Paris Half Marathon. Or a swimmer for that matter. And I’d never owned a road bike in my life. However, some things happen in life that give you a real kick up the arse.
Many of you who know me well will know my Dad. For those of you who don’t, firstly, shame on you. Secondly, he’s currently battling stage 4 prostate cancer (which he’s of course named Dudley) like a true champ. This was news that hit our whole family immensely hard, especially with me being on the other side of the world, and left me feeling rather disconnected with my family and friends back in the UK.
We are all eternally grateful for the dedicated work of the NHS, and for the recent breakthroughs in prostate cancer research which have lead to Dad being able to continue to live his life in as much relative comfort as he currently is.
We are only just at the beginning of this journey but I wanted to do something more to help contribute to the ongoing work of Prostate Cancer UK, ironically a charity I have supported for many years.
On the 4th May 2025, I will be swimming (4km), cycling (180km), and running (marathon) the 226.3km Ironman Australia with 2 pals, James Leigh and Frederick Owen.
Any donation, no matter how small, is hugely appreciated and will help to fund the important work Prostate Cancer UK are doing. It will also put a massive smile on my face!
Thank you,
Oh, and men, please go get your prostate checked.
