Carnegie shortlisted Author and Readers’ Choice Winner Speaks to Upper 4
May 1, 2025
We were delighted to welcome author Tia Fisher to school to speak to Upper Four about her powerful novel Crossing the Line. Tia shared insights into the inspiration behind the book, her writing process, and the extensive research she undertook to bring the story to life. To enrich the Carnegie shadowing experience for pupils, she spoke about how it felt being shortlisted for the prestigious Carnegie Medal and voted Readers' Choice—a testament to this book’s impact and relevance.
During the session, Tia touched on the serious topic of county lines, helping pupils understand the real-world dangers and how young people can protect themselves from similar situations to those faced by the character in her book. Despite the weighty subject matter, the event had a positive and engaging tone, with pupils asking thoughtful and insightful questions. Book Bugs and Dragon Tales were on hand selling copies of Crossing the Line, which students had the opportunity to have signed by the author.
