Almary String Quartet joined by Professional Ensemble, Victoria Quartet
May 8, 2025
On Thursday 8 May, the Almary String Quartet from Norwich School was joined by the professional ensemble, the Victoria Quartet.
This long-anticipated event had been in the making since September. Pupils Julian Pe, Min Ting Deng, Isaac Schaad, and Tommy Cahir demonstrated remarkable discipline and team spirit by meeting every Wednesday at 8 am for rehearsals, ensuring they were fully prepared for the occasion.
Rising to the challenge of Mendelssohn’s demanding repertoire, they performed with impressive confidence and musical maturity. Their gave two performances—one in the school chapel and another in Burnham Market—the latter to a packed and appreciative audience.
The Victoria Quartet praised the students’ exceptional playing and hope to collaborate with other talented musicians from Norwich School in the future.
With thanks to Naomi Fry for coaching the Almary with such care and Marian Abramovich from Music in the Burnhams for inviting us to take part in this project.

Min Ting Deng writes....
Participating in the Mendelssohn Octet performance was such a privilege and a memory which I will forever cherish. Through this, I was blessed to learn from the Victoria String Quartet, who were all encouraging and friendly.
Besides improving my violin skills, this experience taught me how to handle unexpected incidents whilst on stage, yet most essentially, the happiness of playing music as a team.
Looking back, it has been the highlight of my school year, and I am truly grateful for this valuable opportunity and the teachers who guided us throughout.
