VEX Robotics Club Success
March 13, 2025
With funding from the Friends of Norwich School (FONS) two new pneumatic kits have been purchased for this popular club.

Currently we have 16 pupils across L4 and U4 attending VEX Robotics and we have had two teams, one from L4 and one from U4 competing in competitions this year. We hope to expand next year, by our existing teams continuing and by adding a new L4 team.
I have been working in partnership with Richard Love at the Lower School who also runs a VEX Robotics club. The Lower School have visited the Senior school club a couple of times this year and our Senior School pupils have been excellent mentors, helping the Lower School to prepare for their first competition.
Both our Senior School teams were successful in qualifying for the VEX Robotics National finals, which we attended recently in Telford. Pupils gained new skills in team work and strategizing throughout the duration of the event. Many of our pupils attend VEX Robotics on most days and have also attended additional after school clubs and weekend workshops to prepare for the competitions. Pupils gain both engineering and programming skills when building the robots. At a competition, teams work alliances with other schools to play the VEX IQ game. At the National finals our pupils were paired with a total of 12 different schools over the two days; this meant that they had to agree a strategy with the other teams and work together with them to score as many points as possible. Pupils really enjoyed working with other schools and sharing ideas to improve their robots.
VEX Robotics was awarded £204 of FoNS money which we spent on two pneumatics kits, costing £262.96 in total (the difference of £58.96 was made up from the Computer Science budget).
We have received many letters of thanks during the course of the year, explaining how much different pupils have gained from this club. We are excited to see where we can go next year!
Thank you so much to the Friends of Norwich School.
