SENIOR SCHOOL COMES TOGETHER FOR AN INCLUSIVE SPORTS DAY
July 7, 2023
The 2023 Sports Day enjoyed a new format this year with the aim of making it a whole-school, House based event in which everyone could take part. With that in mind a wider range of activities was planned to include the traditional track and field events plus an indoor event and some fun "squadron" activities.
The day got off to a glorious start and the weather remained superb throughout. This helped create a relaxed atmosphere with pupils enjoying time between races and unwinding with friends in the "gazebo village", resplendent with new House flags and some cool summer tunes!
The competition in the track and field events was impressive with three school records being broken by the amazing Izzy Mardle (U5S) in Discus (27.84m), Javelin (36.2m) and 100m (13:16 sec), while Lila Eden set a new shot record of 9.71m.
Norwich Canoe Club and the Norwich School Boat Club provided an ergo challenge while Able2Be, our chosen charity, developed team and communication skills through their "number crunch Challenge". There was also a cake sale in aid of the charity and thanks to everyone who contributed yummy baked goods which were enjoyed by all!
Throughout the day pupils, parents and staff were looked after by our amazing catering team, with the ice cream van proving a particular hit.
After a superb lunch the excitement grew as the relays became the main focus, particularly the 8 x 200m mixed event. The day was rounded off with a competitive Tug-O-War in which Seagrim and Valpy battled in both girls and boys events. Seagrim took both wins in a best of three-pulls.
It was wonderful to see so many pupils excelling in their sports on the Lower Close. Overall, in the main track and field event, Coke were victorious with Repton and School, taking second and third, respectively.
Thank you to all the staff who helped make the day such a success.
