The Cambridge Schools Debating Competition

16 March 2024

On Saturday, Georgia Hodgson and Summer Nesbitt from Lower 6 travelled to Cambridge to represent Norwich School at the Finals of the Cambridge Schools Debating Competition 2024.

They competed against schools from across the world, including top school teams from Canada, India, Bangladesh, Ireland and Australia as well as UK teams fielding members of the English national debate team. Debates took place in the historic Cambridge Union building, where Summer and Georgia took on topics ranging from multiculturalism and artificial intelligence to the funding of higher education and the romanticisation of sacrifice.

Out of 60 teams from across the world, they placed a highly credible 26th, having been come 2nd out of 4 in 3 of their 4 debates – a very impressive outcome against global competition.
