Royal Geographical Society at Norwich School: Youth Micro-Lectures

09 October 2023

Norwich School is proud to partner with the Royal Geographical Society (RGS) for a second year to host a series of Youth Micro-Lectures on the theme ‘People, Planet, Partnership’.  We invite pupils in Years 10 to 13 from any school across the East of England to apply to give a short lecture on a topic of their choice to a public audience including RGS Fellows and Members!

Are you passionate about the state of our world today—about our planet, our diverse peoples, and our need to partner with each other to solve our biggest problems?  Would you like to speak about your passion to a public audience, including Fellows and members of the Royal Geographical Society (RGS)?

Norwich School is proud to partner once more with the RGS to host a new series of Youth Micro-Lectures on the theme ‘People, Planet, Partnership’.  We invite pupils in Years 10 to 13 from any school across the East of England to apply to give a short lecture on a topic of their choice to a public audience of people who are also passionate about the state of the world today.

Micro-lectures will take place on Monday 27th November, from 5.00 to 7.30 pm, in Norwich School’s Blake Studio.  To apply for a place, simply fill in this form with your details and a topic for your proposed micro-lecture, as well as a short summary of what you’d like to say and why you’d like to say it.

RGS Youth Micro-Lectures at Norwich School offer youth like you a unique opportunity to make your voice heard.  They’re open to anyone—you don’t need to be studying Geography at GCSE or A-Level!  You should be sure to pick a topic that relates to the theme of ‘People, Planet, Partnership’, though, and you should also be sure that your proposed micro-lecture goes beyond GSCE or A-Level material in Geography or any other subject.

If you’re selected to give a micro-lecture, you should be prepared to speak for five to seven minutes, and to take one or two questions from the audience.  You should also illustrate your micro-lecture with no more than ten PowerPoint slides, including a cover slide and thank-you slide.  All pupils who give a micro-lecture will receive an official participation certificate from the RGS and Norwich School, as well as a goodie bag!

Spaces are limited, and the deadline to apply Friday 13th October—so don’t delay filling in the form here to be in with a chance of speaking at this prestigious event.  We will contact selected pupils by Friday 21st October, in good time for them to prepare their micro-lectures.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact Dr A N Speca (FRGS) at aspeca@norwich-school.org.uk.

Norwich School is proud to serve as host to the RGS in the East of England, and to their annual series of public lectures from experienced and engaging experts.  Details of upcoming public lectures can be found on our News and Events web page. RGS Youth Micro-Lectures at Norwich School is an exciting new part of the RGS’s public lecture series, and of Norwich School’s outreach to our wider community.
