Rowing Report - Junior Inter Regionals and GB Trials

21 April 2024

On Saturday 12 April, J15 and J16 rowers represented the Eastern Region at the Junior Inter Regional Regatta at the National Watersports Centre, Holme Pierrepoint, Nottingham. 13 regions covering England, Scotland and Wales are represented.

James Howard, Mateo Vedrenne, Joseph Hawkes, Isaac Latter-Casas and Sahib Wahiwala raced in the J15 Coxed Quad, gaining a place in the A final and finishing 5th overall.

Isaac also raced in the Single, gaining a place in the B Final, with an overall finish position of 17th out of 26.

The J16s were represented by George Davies, Joschka Molenaar, Ed Brightwell, Max Stone and Darcey Wilkins in the Coxed Four, just missing out on the A Final they raced the B Final with Nick Conway being a last minute substitution, and winning the B Final by 0.4 second. A very close race to give valuable experience in Regatta racing.

Ed, George, Nick, Archie and Darcey also raced in the composite Eastern Region 8. A very creditable time trial gave them a place in the A final, with a final position of 5th.

The standout performance of the day was Nick Conway and Archie Wilkins in the Pair. Winning the Time Trial by 15 seconds they went into the Final as favourites and won Gold medal by a convincing 9 seconds.

Well done to all on representing the Eastern Region.

On Sunday 21 April, it was Daniel Conway’s turn to race at Holme Pierrpont at the GB Spring Trials Regatta.

Forming a new pairs combination with a rower from Dulwich School, a tough day of racing with tricky conditions for the new combination saw Daniel race the Time Trial and Heats and Finals finishing in the mix with more established pairs. He awaits the decision on how many will be invited back to Final Trials in July. Well done for representing Norwich School throughout the Trials process.
